Diligent and Equitable Outreach

State law requires that planners make a diligent effort to receive public input from “all economic segments of the community” during the housing element update process (Gov. 65583(c)(9)). If your city does not seem to be making this diligent effort, or if you want to remind them to reach out to a diverse set of participants, send this letter to the primary contact person for the housing element update (this may be a staff person or a consultant) and copy individuals on the city council and planning commission, as well as your local organizer and housingelements@yimbylaw.org.
